short film ‘Moving Pictures two’

Moving Pictures two

35mm film | 12 minutes | fiction

portrait: actress Bianca van der Schoot

When a young woman unexpectedly encounters three menacing men in a summer forest, she tries unsuccessfully to impress them with a risqué joke. She flees, and her fear takes on fantastical forms. The film evokes a threatening atmosphere through careful découpage and an ingenious disruption of chronology.

(…) Simplicity, but in a very different way. Ellemers explores for herself the sacred principles of filmmaking. Suspense, editing and mise-en-scène are applied with such care and clarity to a small story approach that these time-honored basic tools of filmmaking take on something very fresh and original. A young attractive woman walks alone through a forest. Is she just meeting her fears and fantasies or is something terrible really happening? Is the laughter at the end liberating or extremely morbid? The magic of editing makes both possible, and Ellemers has beautifully rediscovered that. Thus old and new merge inimitably.
